Marx Brothers

The Marx Brothers

Groucho (Julius, born in 1895), Chico (Leonard, 1893), and Harpo (Arthur, 1893) did Broadway and made many hilarious movies such as Duck Soup, Horsefeathers, and A Night at the Opera—the movies being a blend of wise-cracking verbal routines and frenetic slapstick. Not pictured on the shirt above are Gummo (Milton, 1894) and Zeppo (Herbert, 1901)

Next to Chico, Groucho and Harpo on the shirt above is Karl Marx (1818-1883).Karl Marx was a German philosopher and social and economic theorist. Marx studied at Bonne and Berlin. When the Cologne newspaper he edited was suppressed (1843) he moved with his wife Jenny to Paris, Brussels, and London, where he spent most of his life in great poverty. For capitalism to work a working class is necessary and he thought they would be exploited and get pissed off, revolt, and a classless system would appear where all were equal — a classless, stateless Communist society where all would be equal, contributing according to their abilities and receiving according to their needs. He strongly hoped for this classless society so hate and racism would disappear. I hope Karl had a sense of humor like the Marx brothers.
